The History of AMVETS Post 66

Original name was Bloomer AMVETS Post 66.
Bloomer Post 66 held it's first meeting in September 1954. 
The Charter supper was held in Beare’s Coffee Shop, Versailles, Ohio.
It took three meetings to get ten required members to get the charter.
Bloomer AMVETS Post 66 was chartered on October 7, 1954, with fourteen charter members. Auxiliary had thirteen members and fifteen dollars in treasury after the first year. Bloomer AMVETS Post 66 motto: “Community Service”. Plans were started for new Post home in January of 1957. Clearing of the woods started for new Post home at present address on State Route 185 in February of 1957. Plans for construction of new Post home building (one story, 40 X 78 Feet) was to be completed by Christmas in 1957.  Bloomer AMVETS Post 66 membership strength in January 1958 was 124 members and Auxiliary at 30 members. Junior AMVETS was chartered on June 1, 1983, with fourteen charter members.  Sons of AMVETS, Squadron 66 were chartered on March 23, 1984, with fifteen charter members.  Various projects have been done Ceiling 1996, Siding 1997, meat shoot building 2005, and the new bar area Mar 26, 2006.  All work was done by the men and women of the Post.
